Scrolling Thumbnails w/ Mouse Control: Flash Tutorial!

Flash Tutorials

Date 31st Jan 2010   Comments 25 Comments »

Check this video out at Hi-Res here: www.tutvid.com We will start with nothing more than a blank Flash document and 10 100px X 100px thumbnails and from that little bit we will construct this sweet scrolling thumbnail bar. This thumbnail bar will move in different directions depending on where the users mouse is. It will also stop when the user rolls onto a certain part of it and each thumbnail will light up as the user rollover each individual thumbnail! Lots to learn! Have fun with this one!

    andy,
Hello sir, i’ve been watching and your tutorial(s) now for the past three days for hours at a time and i’ve learned a lot about how to use flash better. I am currently working on a project based off of this tutorial and i am using CS4. I converted my action script to 2.0, however, i can not get it to scroll to prevframe. Can you please help? do you accept emails and offer assistance that way?

  17. andyscottmusic says:

and remember, this project is for actionscript 2.0.

  18. andyscottmusic says:

yes, be sure to check ur Actionscript setting.

File > Publish Settings > Flash (middle btn) > Script (second down).

    Also, I’m surprised 10.0.2 doesn’t have more problems w/CS4, it’s pretty old.

  19. apierce5 says:

HELP! I’m using CS4 10.0.2 to do this…can’t get the test movie function to work (tries to export, then window closes unexpectedly) to check my progress. Do I need to specify a particular flash file/action script when starting this project, or is this a bug with my program?

Got the thumbnails working, thanks! Do you have another tutorial for activating the buttons??? I’m trying to load .swfs into a empty movie clip on the main timeline. This is not working. You have the buttons burried within a couple movieclips so I’m targeting the main timeline with _root, but it’s not helping?? I have no use for this if I can’t make the buttons work! any help? thanks.
